Celebrating Canada Day -TUTORIAL

I LOVE Canada Day! It's my favourite holiday of the summer. Our city puts on the best parade that we always attend and we love spending the day with friends and taking in all of the festive activities.

I'm all about bunting banners right now! They are so easy to make and really accent your decor, whether it be for a holiday , birthday celebration, or just to accent a kids bedroom. So this year, I decided to make a Canadian Pride bunting banner that we could hang in our window.

Here is a look at how it turned out and a quick tutorial on how you can make your own.
First, you want to gather your materials
1) red and white cotton fabric 1/2 yard each is more than enough
2) 1 package of double fold bias tape
3) pattern pieces ( triangle and maple leaf)
4) red felt ( 2 sheets 8x10)

Determine the size of your triangle . Mine was 8.75inches wide by 9.25 inches each long side
Cut it out and this will be your pattern peice. For the maple leaf appliqué , I simply found a template online and printed it and cut it out
Cut out your triangles in red and white depending on how long you would like to make the bunting. I made 6 red and 5 white flags. With you fabric folded right sides together , cut the appropriate number of triangle flags

Before sewing the triangles together , you will need to appliqué the maple leaves on the white flags . Pin them to the flags and carefully sew them all the way around

With right sides together, sew the triangles so that the top ( width) is left open for turning and once all sewn together , turn them right side out and iron them so the seams are crisp.
Once you have all flags sewn , turned and ironed it's ready for assembly.
Open up your bias tape and sandwich each flag , alternating white and red starting and ending with red and pin them in place. Make sure you space them equally apart leaving about 1 inch or less between them and also leaving a tail on each end for hanging
Once they are all pinned carefully sew along , making sure you are catching each flag along the entire length.  and now you're banner is DONE!!
I hope this was a helpful tutorial ! It was the very first one I created . And remember you can make these for any occasion . Fourth of July!! ,Birthdays, Christmas, .....

HAPPY CANADA DAY EVERYONE!!

The Loot Bag Dilema

Do you cringe when your child goes to a birthday party and comes home with a bag of candy or Dollar Store junk? Sorry, I do !! And equally,  I hate to give it to anyone else . So what do you do then? Over the years ( 7 to be exact), I've tried diligently to come up with some creative ways to give a take away favor that both the parent and child will be happy with . Recently, a customer had me create some chalk mats and bibs for her son's 1st Birthday Party . What a brilliant idea. The party theme was Batman and there would be both boys and girls so we decided to do Wonder Woman /Super Hero for the girls and Batman for the Boys . There were going to be a couple of little ones too, so for them , we went with Bibs! Here is how they turned out
Some other great ideas include giving each child a reusable snack bags and put a couple of treats in the bag . I made these recently for my daughters 4 th Birthday , which was a carnival theme
In the past , I made pj pants for my daughter's GLOW BOWLING party. The parents loved these, the kids liked them but still asked for a loot bag ( haha ) and the fun part was they also glowed in the dark !
For my youngest daughters 2nd Birthday, it was rainbow themed .this is what I came up with

Little buckets filled with notepads and crayons and some chocolate coins . And finally, my 7 year old did a Spa themed party this year. Each girl got a cute little zippered bag with a pedicure set . They  also decorated flip flops with ribbons , which they took home too.
There are so many creative ways to give a little something  thoughtfull to your guests without breaking the bank. If you are a DIY kinda person , go for it, if not , consider asking a local, handmade,  small business to help you out. Most will give you a good price if you are buying multiples. I will always work out a good deal for my customers . I hope I've inspired you to break free of the Dollar Store and solve the Loot Bag Dilema

Creative process

Hi all,
I've taken on this exciting project to create 2 dolls that are inspired by the movie Frozen. The 2 sisters, Elsa and Anna. I am pretty new to doll making but after making a couple for my own girls from the basic pattern , I felt I was up to the challenge. Besides, the doll patterns I use are from Dolls and Daydreams and are extremely easy to follow even for a beginner . I highly recommend you check out her website. www.dollsanddaydreams.com .
So, after researching what these two sisters look like, I came up with some ideas and began gathering the materials. These dolls use felt for the hair. I found an Etsy store carrying Bamboo felt for a reasonable price, I found the other fabrics for the clothes from my local fabric shop.. I wanted to share how they are coming along so far all the pieces are cut, the faces are beginning to come to life and the vision for the dresses is created. Have a look. I still have to pick up some fabric for Anna's cape, it's purple. I have some lovely snowflake organza on its way for Elsa's cape. Anna's hair is a bit darker than the actual character and I have thought of stitching some lighter streaks in it . Still not sure about that. I am really enjoying the creative process of creating these dolls . Stay tuned for an update and pictures of the finished product.
